is a gentle yet profoundly effective  technique that releases restrictions in the central nervous system and in the flow of energy throughout the body.  Using subtle holds, the therapist attunes to the inherent healing energy of the client’s system, allowing a natural “unwinding” process to emerge. Energy held in the body from past injury/trauma is safely released and reintegrated into the system.

Craniosacral Therapy is calming, soothing, and triggers deep relaxation.  It is not uncommon for clients to “drift off” into a dream-like state or even fall asleep during a session.  Anyone from infants to the elderly can benefit from this deeply healing modality.

Craniosacral Therapy is appropriate for the treatment of a wide variety of conditions including:

  • Headaches and migraines
  • Neck and back pain, sciatica
  • TMJ (jaw and ear) problems
  • Concussions
  • Traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries
  • Stress and tension-related problems
  • Insomnia
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Learning disabilities, A.D.D., A.D.H.D.
  • Emotional difficulties
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Birth trauma
  • Any condition where only light touch can be tolerated

What to Expect

Client information both written and verbal is always confidential.  The client fills out a Health History form and a treatment plan is discussed beforehand.

Craniosacral Therapy is usually done with the client lying dressed, on their back, on a massage table. (If massage techniques are to be included in the treatment, the client will undress to their comfort level and be positioned and  draped appropriately).

The therapist places their hands lightly on the client in a series of holds.  Holds may be done anywhere on the body but are most frequently done at the feet, sacrum and head (cranium).  The length and variety of holds is determined by the client’s responses as the session unfolds.   Care is always taken to ensure the client’s safety and comfort .

During the session, you may:

  • Relax so deeply that you fall asleep
  • Enter a quiet meditation-like state
  • Feel as if you are dreaming while awake
  • Experience memories or insights while on the table
  • Enjoy a pleasant sense of warmth, softening, widening or floating
  • At times, you may experience other kinds of sensations as energy that has been held in the body is released. If this occurs, just stay present with your breath and bodily sensations and allow the energy to discharge. The session quite often involves a process of letting go of patterns that inhibit your health and vitality. Once these patterns begin to shift, you may experience a sense of integration in your body, mind and spirit.

At the end of the session, you may:

  • Feel relaxed, but also energized
  • Find yourself breathing more fully and deeply
  • Stand straighter and taller
  • Feel more comfortable in your body

No matter what your experience, your therapist will take some time after you are off the table to review your session. The effects may continue to be felt for some time afterwards (several hours to several days).  It is important to note that while a single session can have noticeable effects, it often takes multiple sessions to achieve the results you are seeking.
